Tips for Lips

The skin on the lips is more sensitive compared to other surface areas of the body. As a result, the lips require special care and protection, especially when exposed to the elements.

THE REASON THE LIPS ARE MORE SENSITIVE:

The tissue is thinner, making it more delicate.

Lack of oil glands lends to dryness.

Lack of melanin decreases protection from UV radiation.

In addition, certain medications, such as Accutane, can exacerbate the dryness leaving the lips feeling severely chapped and even painful.

TIPS:

Do not lick the lips as it causes more dryness

Use a toothbrush to exfoliate the lips and remove dead surface skin.

Carry a lip balm with sun protection in your purse, pocket, fanny pack, or glove compartment.
